Venetian Alley - 14

Another typical Venetian scene, though one less drawn, is the colourful washing hanging between shuttered windows high above back alleyways, which criss-cross the city. I have chosen this in a fish eye perspective in an attempt to create the feeling of narrowness and height as it is experienced when wandering usually perfectly lost.

Palm House; Kew Gardens (North Wing) - 20

The Tropical Plant House inspired by the Palm House at Kew brought me from the last Millennium to this one and so I think of it affectionately though perhaps unwisely! as my Millennium Dome. The dome like curves of Decimus Burtons unique creation gives a fish eye lens quality to the view from which the white doorway jumps out at you, palm tree at either side, to invite you in. Evening sunlight playing ...

Palazzo Tiopolo; Venice - 15

Palazzo Tiopolo, as with Ca DOro, features the Grand Canal in Venice. It takes the form of a landscape study of the ornate doors and windows at water level set against the crumbling walls where the stucco work has crumbled to reveal the terracotta tones of the brickwork beneath. A sense of perspective is created with the gondola and coloured mooring mast in the foreground. It al combines to create ...

Il Campo; Sienna - 13

Il Campo in the heart of Sienna dating back to 1250 is most famous for hosting the dramatic Palio horse race. The square is lined with lively pavement cafes and I have tried to catch the al fresco atmosphere of this stunning setting.

Hyde St.;San Francisco - 11

Cable cars were introduced to San Francisco in 1873 in response to accidents caused by horse drawn carts failing to manage the many steep hills. For me these beautifully coloured trams seem synonomous with this wonderfully diverse city.

Antigua Casa Figueras; Barcelona - 12

The famous Antigua Casa Figueras, situated midway up the Ramblas in the heart of Barcelona, has long been established as a chocolate shop. Designed by Antoni Guell in 1908 its gentle art-nouveau features make it perhaps the most charismatic shop front in a city that boasts more art-nouveau buildings than any other city in the world.
